Colourful Natives

IMG_2071.JPG

This garden is a celebration of New Zealand’s native flora, designed to be both vibrant and low-maintenance. The clients had one non-negotiable request—no flaxes. Beyond that, their vision was clear: a lush, natural garden that enhances the beauty of the surrounding Tamahere farmland. Thoughtfully positioned plantings conceal neighboring houses while carefully framed openings preserve and emphasize the long-established rural views, creating a seamless connection between the garden and the landscape beyond. A large rectangular swimming pool is strategically positioned to align with the view, further drawing the eye toward the landscape. A long boardwalk runs beside the pool, reinforcing this visual connection and adding a sense of structure to the natural setting.
